James Quinn's Bio
President & Owner, Jim Quinn has served in many roles over his
more than 40 year career with Quinn. Jim began his career as an
Apprentice Carpenter working various construction projects across
Alberta, including the installation of brownfield and greenfield
facilities as well as the installation of Multi-unit
Residential buildings. After earning his Journeyman certification, Jim
progressed through various supervisory and management roles at Quinn,
learning the ropes under the mentorship of J.B. Quinn. In 1994 Jim
became President & CEO of Quinn Contracting Ltd. after the passing
of his father. During Jim’s tenure as CEO, he led the expansion of
Quinn’s business services to include engineering, extended the
company’s core service delivery area into British Columbia, and
explored international opportunities in Cuba, Thailand, the Persian
Gulf and Aruba. He also established affiliate corporations,
Quinn Construction Ltd. and Quinn Real Estate Ltd.
As a champion for our industry, Jim has played an active role
in numerous initiatives to support business development in our local
operating communities. Some of these roles and initiatives include:
serving as a member of the legislative task force with Merit
Contractors Association for Labour Law Review; member of the RDC
Foundation Board (2002-2009); Chairman for RDC’s Fundraising Committee
for the Trades and Technology expansion (2009); and as a participant
in the inaugural Leadership Networks Program held in Red Deer, Alberta
(2000). Additionally, Jim has served as a volunteer for: Project Keep
Straight, the Rocky Mountain House Kinsmen Club, and many other
community organizations.
Throughout his career Jim has received numerous awards for his
volunteerism and community work, especially around the Rocky Mountain
House community where Quinn Contracting Ltd. was founded. The Quinn
Family was presented the Rocky Mountain House Chamber of Commerce
‘Community Builder Award’ in 1994; Jim also received the, Jamie Tubbs
Memorial Sportsmanship local award for his support of the ‘Safe Ride’
program. In 2005, Jim was presented with the prestigious Alberta
Centennial Medal and in 2007 he received the G.H. Dawe Memorial Award
for outstanding contribution to Red Deer College and the Central
Alberta Community.
