Scope Of Work
As rumors swirled throughout 2012 about the next big attraction to come to Universal Studios, teams of designers, constructors and creative forces were teaming together behind the scenes to wow visitors. Universal Studios Orlando announced they would indeed bring Optimus Prime and Bumblebee to life in the form of a 3-D attraction. And we had just under 12 months to make it happen.
BRPH designed 80,000 sf of building including a basement to support a multi-level interactive ride with 3D visuals and other sensory special effects along with indoor queueing and a gift shop. We made the four-and-a-half minute ride’s infrastructure sound through design of the building envelope and shell, life safety analysis, foundations, catwalks and miscellaneous supports for the ride backdrop.
The most surprising part of the ride wasn’t the impressive technology used in it, or even its really unique marketing, but the time it took to build it. In less than a year, including fast track design, this project went from just a rumor to an open for business attraction. The aggressive timeframe was noted by park officials as the fastest a project as complex as this has ever been built at Universal.
