Scope Of Work

The scope of this project involved the following key elements:

The primary objective was to upgrade the boilers used by the Parks Commission to Oil No. 2 and Natural Gas. This upgrade was necessary to comply with current codes and improve energy efficiency. During the upgrade process, it was determined that the existing chimney was in poor condition and unlined, which did not meet the required safety standards. To address the issue with the chimney, the project included relining the chimney to ensure it met all relevant safety and building codes. This involved installing a new lining to make the chimney safe for use with the upgraded boilers. Overall, the project aimed to enhance the safety, efficiency, and compliance of the heating system used by the Parks Commission.

What challenges did you overcome?

During the project, several challenges were encountered and successfully overcome: The initial challenge was accurately assessing the condition of the existing chimney which was not done during the design phase. The chimney was in poor shape and unlined, necessitating a detailed inspection to determine the best course of action for relining. A significant challenge was the chimney’s 30-degree offset turn, which brought the entire project to a complete halt. This unusual angle complicated the relining process, requiring innovative solutions and specialized techniques to ensure proper alignment and safety.

What unique solutions did you provide?

To address the challenge of the chimney’s offset turn, a 40" composite resin liner was installed. This solution was approved by the engineers of the New York City Department of Design and Construction, allowing the project to resume shortly after.

How did the client/customer react to the finished work?

The client was highly satisfied with the quality of the work. The installation of the 40" composite resin liner, approved by the New York City Department of Design and Construction, ensured that the chimney met all safety and regulatory standards. The client appreciated the durability and efficiency of the new system. The client commended the team for effectively overcoming the significant challenge posed by the 30-degree offset turn in the chimney. They were impressed by the innovative solution and the professionalism displayed in executing it. The client was pleased that the project was completed with minimal disruption to their operations. The careful planning and efficient execution allowed the upgrades to be completed within the specified time-frame, which was crucial for their continued operations. The upgraded boilers and relined chimney met or exceeded the client’s expectations in terms of performance and compliance. The improved heating system provided better efficiency and safety, aligning with the client’s goals for the project
