Scope Of Work

This was a challenging project working on the steep hillside. Our 7000 pound excavator had to be craned into place, along with the 12,000 foot pound anchor installing drill head. The Maloney team was able to excavate for the grade beams and the small bench to drill from.

Maloney Construction consulted on the design and feasibility of this steep hillside foundation.
This new foundation design included 67 vertical CHANCE Helical piers and 10 Helical tiebacks. We used the SS5 material that is 1 ½” round cornered steel shaft, with an ultimate capacity of 55 kips. The lead section used was a 8”-10” lead on a 7’shaft, and terminated with a new construction bracket designed to be cast into concrete.

Some locations still required us to use a portable installing unit that can be used just about
anywhere. Most of the piers and tiebacks were installed to a 14’ depth and achieved a load capacity of 55,000 pounds each, well over the requirement. The ability to torque test every pier you install gives you confidence that you can build a great foundation even on difficult sites like this one.
