Scope Of Work
The $14 million Power Plant at Raritan Valley Community College (RVCC) is getting attention, praise and support from the NJ Office of Clean Energy, who provided the College with a $1 million incentive grant for the Power Plant improvements. The new Plant is expected to save the College $400,000 a year in energy costs through a combined heat and power system.
The co-generation unit is a natural gas fired reciprocating engine that generates 1.4 megawatts of electricity coupled to an absorption unit that converts exhaust engine gases to either 320 tons of cooling or 2000 MMbtu hot water. The plant has both financial and environmental benefits, by improving energy efficiencies and reducing emissions.
In addition to the co-generation engine, Binsky & Snyder also installed 2 larger electric chillers with 600 ton capacity, 2 new boilers and a new cooling tower.
