Scope Of Work

Opening their doors in September 2009, the new Union City High School welcomed 1,800 students. Built on the site of the former Roosevelt Stadium, the facility covers 4½ acres and showcases a rooftop multi-sport stadium. The innovative design allowed for Union City to build the much needed new $180 million facility without displacing a single resident or eliminating exiting district facilities. The 360,000 square foot school is equipped with 66 high tech classrooms, state-of-the-art science labs, a “world-class” gym, dance studios, a media center, and a modern cafeteria. In addition, the school’s 910 seat auditorium also serves as the Union City Performing Arts Center and houses a non-profit health screening organization for the community. The separate staff parking garage will also serve nearby residents and businesses.

The school’s athletic field, the Eagle’s Nest, rests high atop the school, providing amazing views of the NYC skyline. The 125,000 sq ft turf field is complete with lighting and stadium seating to accommodate 4,500 fans.

Binsky & Snyder managed the turnkey procurement and installation of the high school’s HVAC Systems. The design specified an elaborate mechanical infrastructure to support the multi-use nature of this complex facility. The large mechanical spaces housed 14 modular boilers and two centrifugal chillers serving remotely located air handlers, energy recovery units, and one hundred AC units - over 65,000 feet of piping. Four large cooling towers were located on the roof above the Field but shielded from the fans view.
