Scope Of Work
Aztec Contractors, Inc. served as the Prime Contractor for the El Paso Intelligence Center Roof Replacement Project. The main objective of this project was to provide construction that delivers an appropriate level of quality to ensure the continued use of the facility within industry-accepted maintenance and repair cycles by removing the existing rubber membrane (EPDM) roof system and replacing with a new thermoplastic olefin (TPO) roof. As the prime contractor, all planning, programming, administration, and management necessary to achieve the objective of this project was provided in the form of a type II work plan which maximizes the use of schedules, manufacturers’ data, cut sheets, etc., providing ample details to accomplish the task.
The E.P.I.C. facility roofing project consisted of demolishing, removing and replacing approximately 88,000sq. /ft. of an existing EPDM roof system over an occupied and functioning federal facility. This was achieved by strict scheduling and coordination with the sub-contractors, users and involved officials. Included in this task was the scheduled shut down, start up, removal, and relocation of several pieces of existing roof top equipment, e.g. HVAC units, boiler penthouse package, and several water and gas lines. This was performed while simultaneously installing the new TPO roof, retro-fit roof drains and metal cap system, lightning protection system, installation of new roof top access ladders and the repair of all damaged insulation for the existing piping. All work was performed under strict high security observation and guidelines.
