Scope Of Work
The Sarah P. Duke Gardens, connect the east and west campuses at Duke University to form an integrated academic community. The gardens have been recognized for their premier landscape design and range of plant life. An expertly-crafted central water feature welcomes guests to the gardens.
Landscape Development:
Serving as General Contractor, BrightView worked directly with Duke University and oversaw all construction services including grading to allow for a “spill effect” from the upper pool to the lower pond, drainage, concrete, hardscape and stone masonry details, carpentry, irrigation and water features mechanics. The landscape was a joint planting effort between BrightView and The Duke Gardens staff. BrightView also preserved massive historic trees on the property.
Extensive stonework at the gardens called for skilled masons and required a specific stone suitably known on the campus as “Duke Stone,” for its unique blue, green and silver hues. Difficult to work with, BrightView staffed expert stone masons who worked with saws and chisels to craft the stone into a gorgeous site.
