Scope Of Work

As a part of the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act's purpose to reform antiquated Federal facilities across the country, Skanska completed the $73 million, 426,147-SF modernization of the McCoy Federal Building under the U.S. General Services Administration's Design Excellence Program. The scope of work included renovating the building's 15 floors and basement, expanding the daycare and renovating the playground, constructing a new 3,000-SF security pavilion and adjusting the landscaping to enhance the site's security features. The design called for a glass facade to curve around the building's entire vertical surface, floating over rows of painted aluminum panel and Solanum Steel panels to wrap around the entire bottom edge. A major component of the modernization involved replacing all major MEP systems including energy efficiency lighting, fire alarm systems, intercommunications equipment, wet pipe sprinkler systems, standpipe systems, control outlets and feeders, fire pumps and wiring. This project was designed and constructed to achieve LEED Silver, ultimately achieving LEED Gold certification.
