Project Description
Alf’s Restaurant is located in the Albion Basin area at the base of the Supreme and Sugarloaf ski lift, located approximately two miles from the main town of Alta, Utah at 9,268 feet above sea level. The Restaurant has been in operation for approximately 25 years.
The scope of the project expansion included a restroom/shower area and living quarter expansion for seasonal restaurant employees. In addition, construction included an expansion for a new gift/ski shop, dining room, mechanical, electrical and storage room facilities to support the expansion.
Construction included the relocation of existing utilities, new footings and foundation walls, structural steel, expansive storefront/ curtainwall systems, exterior rock, standing seam metal siding and interior finishes for new gift shop and the expanded dining room and mechanical, electrical and storage room areas. Existing mechanical and electrical systems were upgraded with new equipment and the existing fire protection and fire alarm systems were also expanded and upgraded to be compliant with current building codes.
Due to the location of the restaurant and the extent and complexity of the work, the project required that the construction be accomplished during the summer and early fall of 2019 and 2020. In November of 2019, the project was put on hold for the 2019-2020 ski season and a temporary entrance was installed so that the facility could operate during the ski season. Construction resumed in June of 2020 and was completed early November 2020 prior to the start of the 2020-2021 ski season.
