Scope Of Work
Creating a vibrant new space from an old, unused space is always exciting, but it’s even more so when the new space is a place of learning like the charter school facility in Richmond, California. Hilltop Community Ventures chose Big-D for the project, which consisted of demolishing three existing buildings totaling 55,553 square feet and constructing two new, two-story, 61,147 square-foot school spec buildings and a new, single-story, 12,081-square-foot gymnasium building.
The new facility for Aspire Richmond Technology Academy provides an ideal space for a charter school in Richmond. The gymnasium has a wood basketball floor with athletic equipment. The facilities’ exterior walls are made up of concrete tilt-up construction with open joints comprising the roof structure. Site work consisted of a new 111-space parking lot, athletic field (including a soccer field) and other site improvements.
To support sustainable design and construction, the parking lot includes electric vehicle charging stations, and Big-D ground up all the concrete and asphalt from the original buildings on-site and reused it for aggregate base rock material under the new parking lot.
The school currently serves more than 250 students from grades K through 5. Big-D Construction completed the project in just 8 months.
