Scope Of Work
Gilbane Development Company, in a joint venture partnership with Blue Sea and Artspace Projects, is developing the Brownsville Arts Center and Apartments located on Rockaway Avenue and Chester Street. Brownsville Arts Center and Apartments will be a cultural hub accessible to all that includes a 9-story, mixed-use building that combines the 290-unit Brownsville Arts Apartments with the 24,300 SF Brownsville Arts Center, operated and managed by Artspace.
The Details
The apartments, geared toward extremely low-income and formerly homeless New Yorkers, include 61 studio, 128 one-bedroom, 73 two-bedroom and 28 three-bedroom units. The Brownsville Arts Center community facility brings together three art disciplines – dance/performing arts school (Purelements), a music school (Brooklyn Music School) and media and contemporary art space (BRIC) as well as a “Black box” theater (managed by Artspace).
