Scope Of Work
Most notably referenced as The HandCraft Building, this Industrial Moderne gem (with some art deco flourishes) was originally completed in 1946 as a factory for Binswanger Glass Co. Topping out at 87,000-square-feet, the building covers an entire city block in Richmond’s Scott’s Addition Historic District and was originally broken into three parts: an office, glass processing facility, and glass-polishing crane runway. The four-story building has distinctive projections above the second and third story windows and matching entrance towers on two elevations.
Binswanger ceased glass production there in the 1980s and HandCraft Cleaners, a regional dry cleaner, purchased the building for its headquarters and main plant. The building is now on its third life as a mixed-use facility. The massive doors and expansive bays – once used to easily transport giant pieces of glass – have become distinct features for the building’s various tenants.
