Scope Of Work

Balfour Beatty delivered the new, $46 million, state-of-the-art, Legacy Magnet Academy. The Legacy Magnet Academy now serves grades 6 through 12, accommodating approximately 700 students, and is based on the magnet model known as TIDE – a combination of Technology, Innovation, Design and Entrepreneurship.

Erected on the former, 32-acre, Marine Corps Air Station site in Tustin, the school’s buildings were designed to mimic the curvature of the historic blimp hangars looming in the background of the groundbreaking. The design also incorporates elliptical glulam beams and trellis steel topped off with outdoor Amphitheater to incorporate more nature into every day learning. The project consisted of one two-story classroom building with 24 state-of-the-art classrooms, pre-cast concrete amphitheater, food services facilities, an administration building, parking lot, play fields and site infrastructure. The classrooms all have a strong connectivity to outdoor learning areas and grade levels were organized in pods and supported by learning commons to support collaboration across subject areas.
