Scope Of Work
Johnston combined forces with US Filter and worked the project as a design-build team providing a fixed price in the proposal stage. US Filter entered into a negotiated fixed price contract of about $4 million for the 500,000 gallon per day wastewater recycling plant. Johnston Construction had a subcontract of $1.65 million with US Filter.
The facility is a wastewater recycling plant located in Marietta, PA. It was designed and constructed to recycle process water from a ceiling tile manufacturing plant. It is designed as a zero discharge system with provision to discharge to the township sewer in an emergency.
Tankage included a 131' diameter, 20' high concrete tank divided into an equalization basin, clarifier, extended aeration tank and a water storage tank. It also included a pump & blower metal building by Parkline, modifications to the existing pumping station, various chemical feed systems and interconnecting piping. Other system installations included: Davco clarifier and coarse bubble diffusers, three 250 HP Hoffman blowers, two 9.3 HP Goulds horizontal centrifugal sludge transfer recycling pumps, two 25 HP Goulds horizontal centrifugal effluent pumps, a one HP Goulds submersible pump, and two 20 HP Nagle centrifugal equalization transfer pumps.
The project was implemented as a fast tracked project, with Johnston beginning construction at the 60% design point.
The project was completed on schedule despite a difficult winter of concrete work.
