Hi...my name is Doug McGuire, and I am a Watauga County native
from the community of Sugar Grove, raised by my father, and I am
number four out of five siblings. After graduating from Watauga High
School, I worked for my uncles, Waters Brothers Construction &
Grading, operating heavy equipment and driving a dump truck. I was
part of the grading crew that cut the roads into Linville Ridge, and I
also assisted in the construction work on the Linn Cove Viaduct along
the Blue Ridge Parkway. During this time, at the age of 19, I built
my first house. I realized very quickly that residential construction
was my "calling." So after 36 years of construction, I have
built over a 125 houses (1,000 sq.ft. to 10,000 sq.ft.), four
commercial projects (Highland Woods apartment complex, Vilas medic
base, Mt. Vernon Baptist Church sports pavilion, and Boone Fire
Station #3) and numerous renovations in local medical offices. When
I'm not swinging a hammer on the job site (which I am very "hands
on"), I love to hunt and fish, refurbish antique firearms, watch
Atlanta Braves baseball, and travel with my wife, Caroline. I have
been married for 31 years, have two wonderful sons, and I just became
a grandfather.
