Scope Of Work
PCL and Whitney, Bailey, Cox and Magnani, LLC formed the design-build team for the 110,000 square-foot expansion of this 40-year-old manufacturing plant. The PCL team took on the particularly challenging Construction Management role, which involved the blasting and removal of 15,000 tons of rock, strikes by labor unions, the discovery and environmental remediation of 30,000 tons of regulated waste material, and the complete demolition and replacement of the majority of process equipment during a six-week scheduled shutdown. The new structural steel mill required the design and construction of a spring-founded isolation block for the gypsum roller mill to prevent the transmission of any vibration to the neighboring nuclear power plant. PCL managed and phased the construction with such detail that the existing plant was kept in operation continuously until the scheduled shutdown, and the entire project was successfully completed on schedule.
