Scope Of Work

Phase 2 of the Pitzer Student Housing project consists of two 4-story buildings and an open common area in between. Amenities include computer labs, classrooms, study rooms, and offices. Systems include graywater collection, photovoltaic panels, green roofs, living walls, and permeable concrete. The exterior of the buildings consists mainly of plaster, fiber cement siding, and operable windows with the mechanical system tied to it. This project is the first to receive LEED Platinum certification on the Pitzer campus.

The building information modeling execution plan maximized PCL’s modeling capabilities and supplemented the structural model and support subcontractors where required. The repetitive nature of the housing units allowed the construction coordination effort to focus on producing detailed 3-D mock-ups of the interior bedrooms and bathrooms. PCL helped to mitigate the subcontractor’s limited resources by compiling a comprehensive model from various software platforms. The team eliminated the majority of coordination issues by using both a 2-D and 3-D workflow to assist with survey, coordinate areas of congestion, locate steel column base plate templates, and establish work points for the curved roof structure.
