Scope Of Work
The San Francisco Public Utilities Commission, faced with stringent new Environmental Protection Agency guidelines for its major water source, awarded a design-build contract to PCL to design and construct the new Tesla Treatment Facility. The new treatment plant uses ultraviolet disinfection and new chemical feed facilities to treat the Hetch-Hechy water source for the residents of San Francisco. This $86-million project is capable of treating 315 million gallons per day, and is the second-largest UV treatment facility in the United States.
Two shut-downs of the pipeline facilities were programmed into the project; however, through innovative design and procedures, PCL eliminated one of the shutdowns and performed the other in less time than allowed.
