Scope Of Work
More than 25 years after the iconic North Scranton Junior High School was forced to shut down, Quandel Construction was hired to convert the historic building into affordable senior housing. This city landmark is a red brick, three-story building with soaring pillars, clock tower, and carved stone details on the exterior, and it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. In addition, the existing 720-seat historic auditorium is being renovated to establish a theater-type venue for the residents and community events.
The improvement program consisted of converting the 167,000 square foot school, built in 1924, into 58 residential units. Many of the historic features of the facility were maintained while the rehabilitation upgraded the complex to meet current codes and energy efficiency standards. Low Income and Historic Tax Credits and a RACP grant helped make this project financially feasible.
Quandel Construction Group served as the General Contractor and the Guarantor for this development project.
