Description:
The Tower on the Maumee (formerly named the Fiberglas Tower) was originally constructed in 1967. The Tower was the headquarters for the Owens-Corning Fiberglas Co. for more than 20 years. It was the tallest building in Toledo at the time it was built and remains the most significant Modernist architectural landmark in Toledo.
The world famous architect, I.M. Pei designed the urban plan for Riverview and Wallace Harrison and Max Abromovitz designed the skyscraper. In addition to the Fiberglas Tower, Harrison and Abromovitz were known for designing the United Nations Headquarters (1947-1953), Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts (1955-1965), and the Time-Life Building (1958), all in New York City.
The Eyde Company purchased the Tower in 1998. In 2012, the Tower on the Maumee was added to the National Register of Historic Places.
Quinn Evans Arhictects were retained by the Eyde Co. as the lead and historic to redevelop the Tower. The building was officially renamed the Tower on the Maumee and is expected to be Spring of 2018.
