Sacramento International Airport Airside Terminal Modernization Program – Terminal B

Project Information

Project Location:
Sacramento, CA
Status:
Completed - Oct 2012
Structure Type:
Terminal - Airport / Bus / Railroad

Scope Of Work

In 2008, Flatiron secured work on the Sacramento Terminal Modernization project in a line-item, joint venture with sister company Turner Construction. The Turner-Flatiron airside contract included the construction of the new concourse building to replace Terminal B, airfield improvements, half of a tug tunnel used to transport luggage and the elevated viaduct structure for the Automated People Mover (APM) system. Airfield improvements included PCC paving, striping and signage, as well as the installation of airfield lighting and electrical systems.

Flatiron contributed a value-engineering change order totaling nearly $1 million in savings by self-performing pile driving on the APM structure, in lieu of CIDH piles originally specified. For the paving sequence, Flatiron placed about 126,000 cubic yards of PCC pavement for the new apron in four major stages. Production rates varied throughout the stages, with a maximum daily production of approximately 2,300 cubic yards.
