I’ve had a phenomenal experience with SC Builders. I had the opportunity to learn so much more than I thought I would! Not every day was easy, and the challenges were fun to deal with. Each day was different and that made work interesting and fun. The culture/environment you work in definitely contributes to your own success, and the team here has been welcoming and amazing.
A big plus working with the SC team is true mentorship and on the job training. My first couple days as an intern, I was asked to distribute the schedule to the subs and assist the superintendent by following up with subs on their manpower and durations. I was made project lead for RFI and submittal coordination, and I assisted the PM with city permission submittals and coordinating plan check responses with the MEP design-build subs. I also attended OACs with the project team and helped collect and deliver the final closeout package. The whole time, the project team was there to assist if needed. They took the time to review whenever I had questions.
SC Builders works very hard to make everyone feel valued and included. I appreciated all the events they held for us interns as it gave us a chance to get to know everyone outside of a work environment.
SC Builders offers a unique experience. Due to the size of the company as well as the people who run it, you are exposed to more things, you have the opportunity to move up in the company, and you feel valued as an employee, while still getting to work on some pretty cool projects.
Everything that management spoke about throughout the recruitment process came to fruition during my summer with SC. I gained exposure to multiple aspects of the construction process, from site work to MEP coordination. My team gave me as much leash as I could take and was there to answer any questions I had. Everyone from the foremen to the PEs were involved in my experience and provided advice and insight throughout. It was a great internship and I’m glad I returned to work for SC.
My summer project—a giant campus for a huge, cool tech client—was mid-construction, so I was able to see drawings to completion for a majority of the work: I could watch it come alive. Myself and the other intern on that job were introduced as part of the team from day one. We were given responsibility for some aspects of the project and they really made us part of the team. We felt supported and we learned a lot.
The internship helped so much with the transition to full-time because I learned what SCBI was looking for. As interns we attend PE trainings which was helpful as well.
I was given a lot of responsibility but was always offered help and support. The people were very friendly, willing to help and teach. It felt easy to ask them questions—they didn’t make you feel uncomfortable or intimidated. The Giants game at the end of the summer was a fun way to get to know other PEs and interns. It was a fun, energetic team that made the summer fun!
My experience with SC Builders has been great. I genuinely enjoyed the work I was doing and loved working with my team. SC Builders has a warm company culture that values their employees. Something that specifically attracted me was the company’s investment in each individual. It was consistently communicated, and it showed that SC Builders wants what’s best for their employees.
SCBI gave me the opportunity to not only work side by side with the PM of the project but also catered to my desire to work in the field with the Superintendent. And they were very honest with me during the interview process. Many companies say things like “You’ll be out in the field at a job site the whole time,” but often interns end up in the office doing RFIs and submittals. Not true at SCBI: I was at the jobsite the whole time and was never stuck behind the computer days at a time.
