Scope Of Work

Michael Baker provided architectural and engineering design services for two new Special Operations Forces (SOF) Fuel Cell and Corrosion Control hangars. Our team provided architectural, electrical, structural and civil design for the facilities. Design elements included utilities, storm drainage, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, energy management control systems, force protection measures, grading and landscaping.

The two new SOF hangars support the U.S. Army Special Operations Command (USASOC) mission in the southwest. The independent Fuel Cell Hangar is 31,707-square-feet and provides a state-of-the-art facility for aircraft fuel cell maintenance, accommodating a staff of approximately 90. The Corrosion Control Hangar is 51,694-square-feet and provides a modern facility for aircraft corrosion control and composite repair maintenance, accommodating a staff of approximately 120. Each SOF hangar includes administrative, mechanical and maintenance areas.

Our team organized, led and facilitated an on-site design charrette to lock-in site and building configurations and floor plans. Construction documents were prepared in two parts. Part I included site civil and foundation design and Part II included architectural, interior and mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection design.

Our team prepared specifications using the Specs Intact writing program and provided submittals at the 60 and 100 percent design stages. During the post-design/construction phase, we reviewed contractor submittals and 200 requests for information following the notice to proceed.

The facilities were designed to achieve LEED® Silver certification. We provided LEED-accredited professionals throughout the design phase and provided documentation of LEED credits pertaining to civil, landscape and mechanical, electrical and plumbing.
