Scope Of Work

Memorial Hermann Health System leads the industry in operational and energy efficiency. They set aggressive targets that each new construction project will achieve Energy Star rating of 75 within one year of completion. For the new, six-story patient tower expansion in Sugar Land, Memorial Hermann chose Bernhard as the commissioning agent for the project.

The patient tower added 60 medical/surgical patient beds, 14 ICU beds, an expanded well-baby nursery and NICU, a new robotic operating room, and shell space for future growth. The commissioning team worked closely with the contractor throughout the project to make sure that the building’s systems operated and were controlled as designed. Our team also retro-commissioned the existing facility so that the mechanical systems would be properly integrated for maximum energy savings.

In 2018, Memorial Hermann Sugar Land achieved an Energy Star score of 99 after one year of operation. The hospitals’ staff continued to seek energy savings and in 2019 the facility was re-certified at Energy Star 100, making it one of the most energy efficient hospitals in the country.
