Scope Of Work

Located in Severn, Maryland, the Kilby Center is a state of the art 89,000 sf. multipurpose building that contains a student center, dining hall, school store, classrooms, and comprehensive athletic facilities including three full sized gymnasiums, locker rooms, weight room, and a 22,000 sf. indoor soccer and lacrosse turf field.

The building was initially scheduled to be built by a well known local secular builder, but due to prohibitively high initial cost estimates, even after making major changes to the building, the school turned to Hammen Contracting, Inc. as the construction management firm.

After returning to the original design and re-pricing  which brought the estimates in line with the school's finances, construction was begun after the loss of almost one year of delays by the original contractor.  The building was completed on time and 14% under the initial budget estimates in large part due to Bob Hammen creating a strong team of Christian subcontractors who understood the school's mission and who willingly participated in a Gift-in-Kind program.

Additionally, the school  conducted a comprehensive Ministry of Construction program throughout the entire construction process that truly brought Christ to the workers on the job site and impacted lives for eternity.
