Scope Of Work

Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation, a subsidiary of General Dynamics, designs, develops, manufactures, markets, services and supports the world’s most technologically advanced business-jet aircrafts. Evans previously built and renovated multiple Research & Development Centers (RDC), administrative buildings, office, lab and warehouse facilities on Gulfstream’s  49.2 acre corporate campus in Savannah, GA. As a repeat client, Gulfstream contracted with Evans to perform the design, engineering, and construction services of a new sub-assembly building.

This facility supports the G-550 and 650 production line for Gulfstream currently built in adjacent Building Y & Z.  The project is a greenfield 224,000 sf tilt-up concrete wall construction, with 32’ clear height, adjacent to the existing Gulfstream Building Y in Savannah, GA.  The facility has 4 underslung gantry cranes for assembly line support.  The building has two down-draft paint booths and air shower with capabilities to paint the G-650 wings.  Compressed air and electrical connections for workstations were located in trenches with FRP lids throughout the assembly lines.  38,000 sf of interior office space was constructed for the engineer and management support for this facility.

This facility required coordination with local utilities, FAA, Savannah Airport, existing Gulfstream buildings, and multiple vendors contracted directly by Gulfstream. Evans coordinated with multiple utility providers, including GA Power, Atlanta Gas & Light, City of Savannah, Chatham County, AT&T, and Savannah Airport. This facility is located adjacent to a Savannah Airport Runway, which required FAA approval for the height and location of the building, as well as the crane locations and heights to construct the building. The Sub-Assembly building functionality was integrated with the existing Building Y at Gulfstream, through connections to the Building Y communications, security, process air, and shared access between the new Sub-Assembly building and existing Building Y. Evans’ coordination was also required with Gulfstream vendors, which included security, data, signage, food supply, furniture, A/V, paint booth manufacturer, breathable air, and vertical storage equipment. Evans’ ability to coordinate with local utilities, municipalities, and existing Gulfstream facilities and vendors allowed the project to be completed on time and under budget.
