Our Story
Hamma Down Enterprises, Inc (HDE) is a small service-disabled veteran owned business. It provides general construction and hauling services for private, commercial, and government entities with land improvement, construction, and agricultural requirements throughout the Greater Washington Metropolitan Area and surrounding regions. Not just another guy with a dump truck and bulldozer, Hamma Down Enterprises is capable, qualified, and professional enough to deliver it services directly to the customer or as part of a larger contract/project team. We can be counted on to provide customized ‘full-service’ solutions to each customer on time and within budget. Hamma Down Enterprises promises to ‘Deliver Your Dreams to You!!!’ We take our customer’s goals and requirements, work with them to develop the optimum solution, and then deliver the vision as specified.
Born and raised in northern Virginia, our founder , Shawn Hawkins, developed his passion for truck driving and operating heavy equipment while riding with and listening to the tales of his grandfathers, father, uncles, and neighbors who were heavily involved in the construction industry as foremen, truck drivers, heavy equipment operators, and tradesmen. He experienced much of the growth and development in the Washington Metropolitan area, first hand, from the seats of their vehicles and equipment. While in the military, Shawn did small demolition and lot clean-up jobs with his pick-up truck, dump trailer, and a small farm tractor. In 2009, while at his last duty station, Shawn incorporated Hamma Down Enterprises. Upon retirement in 2014, he transitioned the business from a part-time hobby into a full-time operation with a small fleet of trucks and construction equipment. Initially, HDE provided hauling services to W.A. Howard Trucking for various construction projects and Veteran’s Compost, hauling compost from its site in Aberdeen, MD to their customers in DC, MD, and VA. In 2015, HDE provided excavation, grading, and general hauling services for Team Henry Enterprises at Davison Army Airfield, Fort Belvoir, VA. This was in support of a multi-million-dollar US Army Corps of Engineers project repairing concrete and asphalt pads at different sites around the airfield. In 2016, as the primary excavation service provider, HDE partnered with Valley Green Landscaping, LLC to provide excavation, site work, and materials hauling on several projects throughout the region. We also partnered with the Mid-Atlantic Gleaning Network (MAGNET) to haul produce from/to local foodbanks, community pantries, churches and other private, non-profit, and state organizations with a mission to feed those in need. In 2018, HDE provided the initial clearing and grubbing for the construction of the New Frederick Douglas Memorial Bridge in Southeast DC. Most recently, we've been hauling heavy equipment in support of the Transform I-66 Project in Northern Virginia.
