Scope Of Work
Kaplan Construction recently provided construction management services for CALA (Community | Architecture | Landscape | Art) in Somerville’s Teele Square. This 91,000 SF project consists of the adaptive re-use of the decommissioned Powder House Community School to create a mix of 28 market rate units, 8 artist live work units, 12 senior housing units, a maker space, a flexible community hub with an outdoor amphitheater, commercial space, and a public park. The goal of this community-driven project is to revamp and modernize the school into an inclusive, inter-generational urban village. CALA achieves 29 of the 39 goals set by SomerVision, the city’s 20-year plan for evolution into a model for urban planning, smart growth, open space, public transit, sustainability, diversity, artistry, and community.
