Scope Of Work

This fast track project for the town of Greenwich included the complete demoltion and reconstruction of the Island Beach Pier which was destroyed by the "Super Storm Sandy". The demolition included the removal and disposal of the existing timber and concrete pier.

The design build team of Mohawk combined with a second contractor developed the plans to completely repair and renovate the island destroyed by Super Storm Sandy. The plans incorprated all components necessary to meet the environmental guidelines, including the support of beach sustainability. Mohawk's construction team worked diligently to ensure the project stayed on track and within the budget. The two organizations worked together on all components of the project (such as the ferry landing and the recreation of the stone wall) using careful examination and employing the idea of "group think". When issues arose around the delivery and application of the concrete (a key component to the project) teamwork came into play. Through the creation of new plans, and Mohawk's marine expertise, the response was efficient and effective. The solution: to barge the concrete in and pour it on site, proved to be the best possible way to overcome the obstacle. The Town of Greenwich graciously offered the use of the Rocky Neck III, a landing craft vessel which provided critical assistance in the endeavor.

Collaborative efforts like this, along with the constant communication between the two firms, created a strong relationship built on respect, trust, and open communication.  Thanks to the tireless work of the two organizations, The Island Beach is now one of the most beautiful places in the Long Island Sound. The natural environment was completly respected, while being brought to an even higher standard for summertime fun.
