Green Programs: NYSERDA-MPP and CHP Programs and Energy Smart Loan
The Americana is a complex consisting of a 270 unit tower and 20 townhouse units built in 1970. The Board of the Americana explored options to replace its aging HVAC system and reduce energy consumption. AEA, in conjunction with Energy Concepts – a CHP expert, proposed the following work at a cost of $3,611,136:
- Conversion to gas, a cogeneration system, staff training.
- High efficiency boilers and new absorption chillers.
- Replacement of 140 T-12 fluorescent fixtures in the garage.
The $3,600,00 project was funded by NYSERDA MPP and CHP incentives, an Energy Smart Loan and building reserves. The post analysis revealed that the project reduced the Americana’s source energy use by 38% at an annual savings of approximately $400,000.
AEA received the 2013 Multifamily Performance Program Partner Award for Exceptional Realized Savings in a High Rise Project (Existing Buildings) from NYSERDA for its work on this project.
