SIZE: 68,000 sq. ft.
The Fowler Drive Elementary School project consisted of razing the majority of the existing school and renovating the Earth shelter portion, which was constructed entirely of concrete four feet below grade. The project totaled approximately 68,000 square feet and included new classrooms, media center, gymnasium, cafeteria and administration space. After construction began, Clark County School District wanted to
incorporate some “green” features into the project and added a rainwater cistern system. The system includes visual elements of water running through the school that allow for hands-on learning. In addition, Fowler Drive Elementary School utilizes bold colors and images of fish, animals, roads and the solar system in the floor tiles to encourage students to become further engaged in their curriculum.
