Scope Of Work
The new 105,000 square-foot Operations & Public Safety Center for the Lake County Forest Preserve District was constructed on approximately 15 acres at the Fourth Lake Preserve in Lindenhurst, Illinois. The new facility will utilize sustainable materials and energy-efficient design elements. It combined various departments and functions under one roof, which were located in several out-dated buildings in different forest preserves in Lake County. In addition to including the administration offices for Operations and Public Safety, the new facility will include vehicle garage and fleet maintenance space, a fuel island, material storage, space for carpentry, heavy equipment, electrical, painting, landscaping, sign and forestry workshop areas. Construction began in August 2008 and was completed in March 2010.
The precast and steel shell of this building was erected during the fall and winter, which prohibited the anticipated roof installation on the building due to below freezing temperatures. Melting winter snow and heavy spring rains caused some problems with wet sub grade, but did not impact the overall budget, nor substantially delay the completion of the project. The project was completed on-time and under budget.
