Alten Construction collaborated with San Mateo Union High School District and Quattrocchi Kwok Architects to renovate an existing maintenance and classroom space, which hadn't been modernized in over eighty years. Within an occupied campus, Alten Construction demolished almost all of the interior partitions and reconfigured the space to accommodate cutting edge classrooms, computer labs, art studios, and dance and theater practice spaces. Massive new window systems replaced exterior walls, and light-diffusing clerestory windows were installed to allow natural light to brighten the previously dark and stale space. The project also included ADA upgrades; plumbing, mechanical and electrical work, including fire life safety systems; and miscellaneous roofing.
