Scope Of Work
Combs Wholesale Produce Company commissioned
A M King to design and build a greenfield cold storage distribution facility in Winston-Salem, NC. The 40,000-sf building replaced the company’s original facility built in 1978 with a larger, more modern space settled on 10.75 acres.
Facility design highlights include the creation of a unique conditioned dock for displaying and selling fresh produce to the public. Customers can access the drive-through doors for easy loading. Sanitary design measures have also been put in place, featuring slot drains and sloped floors to eliminate standing water and floor sinks for regular washdown.
The scope of the project included a 4,100-sf main office with client entry; conference room; break room, restrooms and locker rooms; closed, open and flex offices with cubicles and millwork storage; maintenance area; and a command center/shipping and receiving area. Additional project highlights consist of a rack system for refrigeration and LED light fixtures.
During construction, A M King enforced new safety procedures for infectious diseases in accordance with CDC and OSHA recommendations.
