Scope Of Work
The Waste Solidification Building (WSB) is being constructed to the Department of Energy's highest quality standards, Nuclear Quality Assurance Level One. WSB is one of three critical facilities that will allow the United States to dispose of surplus weapons-grade plutonium. Upon completion, this facility will house waste concentration and cementation equipment for processing both low- and high-activity liquid waste, an analytical laboratory, control room, and additional support facilities. The structure is designed to provide radiation shielding for workers, confinement of airborne contamination, and protection against the potential impacts of natural hazard events.
Baker's contract is inclusive of a full sixteen division work scope. Specific components include a monolithic foundation mat, perimeter and interior concrete walls, structural steel framing, rough and finish carpentry, caulking, roofing and sheet-metal, doors and windows, finishes, fireproofing, specialties, overhead cranes, specialty equipment, laboratory equipment, glove boxes, mechanical piping and HVAC systems, temperature controls, instrumentation, electrical power and distribution, fixtures and trim. The owner's end-use process requires to detail of all critical and safety significant components. Baker is performing this scope of work under its audited and implemented NQA-1 program.
