Scope Of Work

Located at Stanford Research Park in Palo Alto, Calif., Hanover Page Mill is one of the city’s first LEED Platinum and net-zero electric buildings. The Class A office building was designed using affordable and practical building strategies to provide high levels of occupant comfort while still offering competitive leasing options. The building pays for its net-zero features (i.e., photovoltaics, LED lighting, double-pane window glazing, low-flow fixtures, etc.) entirely though energy-cost savings.

The two-story, C-shaped building rises over an underground 118-space parking garage on a corner lot. Joseph J. Albanese, Inc. performed mass excavation for the garage basement as well as site grading and structural and site concrete—and resolved several challenges along the way!

For instance, JJA provided shotcrete basement walls instead of cast-in-place (CIP) walls. The sprayed-concrete method proved to be an excellent alternative to CIP, because it shaved a considerable amount of time from the client’s schedule. JJA also constructed several architectural planter walls.

Lastly, the building campus was built around an existing drainage channel that crosses through the middle of the site. JJA built two arched concrete bridges that span the canal to provide access to the building, one for pedestrians and one for vehicles. Traditional falsework was not allowed in the channel itself, which led to JJA implementing a creative design to construct both bridges.
