Scope Of Work

The Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) South Region High School #8 project included the master plan and design of a new high school occupying two city blocks on 9.24 acres. The south side of the campus prominently showcases a classroom building containing three Small Learning Communities (SLCs), each with its own dedicated quad.

The first floor of each SLC includes administrative offices, indoor dining space, an outdoor lunch shelter, and classroom space. The second and third floors house 10 general classrooms, a flexible science lab and a chemistry lab. The south side of the campus also includes a library, a multi-purpose building, gym and a service yard.

The north side of campus includes a parking structure with 120 stalls on the ground level. The structure's rooftop features five full-size basketball courts and two large stairs that double as bleachers. A soccer and football stadium, jogging track, and instructional garden round out the remaining space on the north side of campus. Fifty percent of the classroom building and gymnasium roofs, as well as a portion of the parking structure, are designed for a future installation of photovoltaic arrays to power school facilities. The project's total building area is 203,035 sq. ft. with a total building footprint of 114,534 sq. ft.

The project relieved the district's issue with overcrowding at local schools and allowed the area's current high school to return to a two-semester calendar for the first time in more than 30 years. In addition, the project also serves the neighboring community as a recreational and social space, as they have secure access to the multi-purpose room, library, gym and athletic fields after-hours.
