Scope Of Work
The Lafayette Elementary School Renovation and Addition included both classroom and administrative space additions. The work also incorporated five alternates: Computer Room AC addition, day light improvements to the cafeteria, new vinyl tile in all hallways and the cafeteria, new irrigation laterals, and heads in the fields. A preschool restroom was added and a second bathroom was remodeled. A teacher’s lounge was remodeled into a conference room. Fire sprinkling piping and new fire alarm devices were added throughout the building. MYC self-performed the wood/timber and laminated beams supporting the sloped roof in the attached photo.
Project work was completed while the building was occupied. The staff occupied the existing offices until we moved the temp partitions and tied in the new finishes for the first month of school. One of our key staff members worked with students during the year as “Construction Chris” cousin of the PBS children’s character Bob the Builder to talk about construction and jobsite safety. He even served as a judge for a safety poster competition held by the 5th grade classes.
The finishes were low VOC materials and construction methods had to be planned carefully as work was completed around not only the students, but staff, visitors, and parents. Construction fence and temporary partitions were placed around the work and checked many times a week. Due to the location of the multi-purpose room addition, we had to use safety methods such as on time delivery and staged delivery to get materials and work coordinated around recess and outdoor activities that could not be fenced off.
