Scope Of Work
This project was designed and built in the floodplain for one of the few female ship captains in Texas. Well-known among the shipping community, she skillfully guides large vessels down tedious passages for a living. Her love for ships, the water, and entertaining her 11 closest friends drove this design, as well as the fact that the entire bottom floor of her home site was located in the floodplain. Originally, the client was considering selling the lot, but owner, Shan Jenkins, showed her on a cocktail napkin the design he envisioned for her home. She loved it! The very limited view corridor to the lake required careful site placement. The main living sits suspended 21’ in the air, at the 100-year floodplain level with a three-floor stop elevator to accommodate the almost 50’ tall structure. “Ship in the Sky” revolved around a nautical theme and was designed to capitalize on lake and hill country views. Ship portholes, for example, can be found subtly-placed throughout the modern design.
