Scope Of Work
This project required construction of the infrastructure needed to support the offloading, storage, and distribution of F-24 jet fuel at Craney Island. Prior to the execution of this project, Craney Island did not have the capabilities to manage this specific fuel. Also included was new storage tanks and distribution piping for both JP-5 and F-76. A pre-cast concrete, pile supported, F-24/ JP-5 Metering Facility was constructed so that the fuel received via the Colonial Pipeline could be accurately metered. The metering facility also included a flash point monitoring device. A multi-product Truck Fillstand was constructed which included four loading positions capable of issuing F-76, F-24 and JP-5 products. Prior to construction of this structure a 20’ high soil surcharge with wick drains were installed to stabilize the truck fillstand subgrade. In addition, a new pre-cast concrete pile supported JP-5 day tank storage facility was constructed that included three 25,000 gallon above grade tanks. Four existing marine loading arms were removed from DFSP Yorkton via a floating crane and barged to Craney Island. Three of these loading arms were rebuilt and installed on Pier C and Pier D- North and Pier D-South so that F-24 could be loaded onto ships or fuel barges. Two existing 100,00 barrel storage tanks were modified to store F-24 product. The modifications included the installation of internal floating roof, stilling wells, gauging and overflow and ventilation hatches. All facility piping was pile supported to include several cast-in-place fuel pipe road crossings structures. Extensive piping demolition, to include three 5,000 barrel JP-5 AST’s, was completed as well.
