Scope Of Work
Situation
The breakout of the COVID-19 pandemic shuttered Universities across the country in the spring of 2020, and sent educators looking for solutions for the following school year. As social distancing and masks became the new normal, Temple sought to use extra space in their Paley library to create large, socially distanced classrooms that would allow the school to open for the Fall semester. That’s where JJ White came in to help make this dream a reality
Challenges
This project required the JJ White team to work under pandemic conditions, necessitating social distancing, make usage, and enhanced sanitization. The start of school in Mid-August also presented further logistical challenges on top of virus safety measures. The new classrooms also needed ADA compliant bathrooms to accommodate all Temple students.
Solutions
The JJ White safety team developed a site-specific safety plan that kept all employees healthy throughout the project. A streamlined six week schedule allowed for minimal interaction between employees and Temple staff.
Results
Temple University’s Paley Hall underwent a rapid transformation in under six weeks that will allow students the opportunity to have on-campus education in the fall of 2020. The 30,000 square foot conversion created 5 new, socially distanced classrooms and accommodates everyone with two new ADA bathrooms. JJ White is proud to help open the doors for learning at Temple University
