Scope Of Work

Of the  project, Mike Tatoian, Executive Vice President of Operations at Dover International Speedway said, "The Brick Doctor really brought our vision for Victory Plaza and the Walk of Fame to life. We are extremely pleased with both the quality of workmanship and the materials used."

"Monster Mason" may be the latest and most unique title on the long list of credentials for The Brick Doctor, Inc. The Kent , Delaware, masonry contractor recently  work on the new Victory Plaza and Walk of Fame at Dover International Speedway.

The Speedway - affectionately known among NASCAR aficionados as the "Monster Mile" - embarked on a "Monster Makeover" in 2006. Its mission: to renovate the 40-year-old, 135,000 seat motorsports facility, create an exciting new  and gain a bigger share of the entertainment market. A monster undertaking, the multi-year capital improvement project required the very best products and services from every industry involved.

When it came to Hardscaping, project officials selected The Brick Doctor, an EP Henry Authorized Hardscaping Contractor. "Originally, they wanted stamped concrete and then scored, epoxy-colored black top," said Brick Doctor owner Reggie Capitan. "Once we got involved, we were relentless in pursuing the paver sale and demonstrating the advantages of flexible interlocking pavers, including durability and the custom color choices they offer." The firm's 23 years experience and five-year installation guarantee went a long way toward winning the sale.

A time sensitive project, to help speed up the C33 bed installation, a Screed Max I was purchased. Yet an even bigger challenge for the 12- crew, all installing simultaneously, proved to be keeping straight all the lines in the intricate design. Capitan attributes the crew's success to teamwork and an abundance of supervision. "There's really something to be said about having the right person in the right place," said Capitan. "We have Jason Goodnight, our Vice President, to thank for this project going so well. His ten years with The Brick Doctor, combined with his talent and abilities in Hardscaping and crew management, made this monster installation seem more like a back yard patio project." If Capitan could give advice on a job this size to his contractor colleagues it would be to ensure solid crew management, remain focused on the objective, and take it one day at a time.

Four weeks and 1,200 tons of crushed stone base material later, the new Victory Plaza and Walk of Fame lead to and encircle the Monster Monument - a 46-foot high tribute to racers and fans featuring the track's mascot, Miles the Monster.
