Scope Of Work
Types of work: Limestone cleaning
Details: Nicholson & Galloway was awarded the entire limestone restoration of the Fifth Avenue facade at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The Fifth Avenue facade runs from 80th Street to 84th Street, approximately 1,000 linear feet.
The restoration program included installation of stationary scaffolding on the entire facade. We cleaned all of the limestone, using a gentle water soak and power washing technique. It was cut and pointed 100%, using a soft limestone rich mortar. In areas where there was localized deterioration of flat and ornamental stone, we removed the stone and installed pre-carved Dutchmen, and in some places carved the Dutchmen in place.
The program also entailed re-coating of all bronze monumental windows and removal and reinstallation of approximately 1,200 linear feet of Monel gutter. This was a three year project, which was completed on schedule.
