Scope Of Work

The Intensive Community Based Acute Treatment unit at Boston Children’s Hospital Waltham is an acute, inpatient residential unit for adolescents and children requiring psychiatric treatment and stabilization. To treat those suffering from behavioral health disorders, Boston Children’s at Waltham needed to create more usable space and accommodate more beds, however, space was directly below an existing residential facility, and above ambulatory space for the hospital, requiring stringent site controls and noise mitigation. In addition, the hospital was need of the bed's space would bring to help more patients, creating a fast-track timeline. The project required Wise Construction to completely renovate the East Wing of the 4th floor, including complete demolition and construction, specialized ceiling systems, hardware, fixtures, window systems, finishes, and millwork. Space also required a new 30,000 CFM AHU for rooftop service to the new space, as well as all new fire systems. To not disturb the occupied areas, Wise came up with a schedule planning all noise-intensive work over just two-hours a day. The use of BIM software helped ensure that all MEP systems were pre-planned to a T, so nothing had to be reworked during construction, saving time and helping with noise mitigation.
