Scope Of Work

As one of the largest programs of its kind in the United States, Boston University's Biomedical Engineering (BME) Department is ranked second in research expenditures among the top 10 BME programs. When it came time to expand a portion of the department, while continuing their research, BU selected Wise Construction for the job. Existing office and lab spaces were converted into a cell culture lab, lab prep space, wet lab and dry lab. Located along a heavily trafficked hallway that interconnects multiple buildings on campus, the BME department used this as a chance to showcase their work. The design incorporated floor to ceiling glass panels that provide an inside look for passing students, faculty and visitors. Finishes included new lab casework, flooring, custom whiteboards and specialty lighting. Additional upgrades were made to the buildings electrical system and all new fire protection was installed. Wise installed a new acid waste system that supports this lab as well as all of the labs located in the building and two rooftop air handling units. The learning spaces called for a robust AV system with speakers and large monitors throughout the space. Leveraging relationships with key vendors and early procurement were vital in managing long lead items, allowing Wise to deliver this project to Boston University on time and on budget.
