Scope Of Work
Boston University brought in Wise Construction to renovate the school’s Pappas Auditorium and Law Library in a tight twelve week construction period over summer break. The Law Library needed to be brought up to current code and accessibility standards, requiring new fire protection systems, ceiling finishes, handrails, and specific mechanical and electrical relocations. Although it was during the University’s summer break, law students typically take classes year round, and the library had to stay functional throughout construction. Not only did this require close coordination with user groups, but Wise had to ensure the historic books were protected during construction.
In the auditorium, Wise worked to upgrade the mechanical system, install a limited use, limited application elevator, replace 400 auditorium seats, create three new accessible restrooms, and install all new technology systems. Both the new auditorium seating and new elevator system required extensive structural work from the team. The project’s success ultimately relied on Wise’s ability to self-perform several aspects of the project, and the team’s ability to coordinate several trades working within the space at one time.
