Scope Of Work

Project specifications:

The architect specified our waterproof retractable patio cover system with single-sided water drainage to attach to the wood beams of a spa building at a high-end residential home on Miami Beach. The product frame and guides are made entirely of aluminum using the Qualicoat® powder coating process. The stainless steel components used were Inox (470LI and 316) which have an extremely high corrosion resistance, a very important feature since this project is installed very close to the ocean. The cover has a Beaufort wind load rating Scale 9 (up to 54mph) with the fabric fully extended and in use. Wind sensors with RTS motors that will connect with a home automation system were also specified by the architect.

Purpose of this project. What the client requested:

The purpose of the project was to provide sun, glare and UV protection when sitting poolside; to allow the area to be used during a heavy rain storm and even hail; and to extend the outdoor entertainment area Three individual sections, each approximately 6 feet wide by 13 feet projection, open and close with a remote individually or together. This makes it possible for some to enjoy the sun and others to enjoy the shade at the same time. The client wanted something that was proprietary, unique and aesthetically pleasing.

Uniqueness or complexity of the project: 

The project was challenging because the location where the guides would attach was to be custom covered with copper cladding and since our system was made in Europe the size of our retractable patio cover had to be exact to 1/16 of an inch. In addition, the product and delivery time from Europe was approximately nine to 10 weeks so the product had to be ordered early in the construction cycle to meet the client’s installation deadline.

Results of the project:

The client is ecstatic with the results of his retractable patio cover system, making it possible for him to use the spa building throughout the year. The client loves the fact that with his home automation system, he has complete control.
