Scope Of Work

Designed by Los Angeles-based Rossetti Associates Architects and constructed by Colombo Construction, the new 8,300 sf Bakersfield station is a modern structure with vast walls of glass and a striking veneer of warm, rich India red sandstone laid in a coursed ashlar pattern. As the sun crosses the sky, the varying color tones of the stone are highlighted. From a distance, the building is easily understood as three distinct parts. To the west is the public waiting room marked by an angular roofline. A three story rectangular tower marks the transition to the private administrative area with offices and baggage handling, located at the eastern end of the building which is crowned with a gently curved roof.

The exterior layout places 15 bus bays directly adjacent to the train platforms allowing travelers the shortest distance for transfer from bus to train.

Upon completion, the development received several awards including the American Public Works Project of the Year and the Cal Trans Intermodal Excellence in Transportation Award for conservation minded practices.
