Scope Of Work
The team of Auld & White Constructors (AWC) and Ebert Norman Brady Architects provided design and construction services for the renovation of the JEA Westside Service Center (WSSC) administrative area. The project included renovation & infrastructure upgrades of the existing 1969 structure to meet current needs and industry standards. The scope included complete interior demolition to structural frame including existing HVAC, electrical and plumbing systems; removal of window systems; installation of new impact-resistant windows for storm hardening; and upgrade of existing restrooms for ADA compliance. The new design reformatted and upgraded existing offices to provide for an efficient and logical workstation arrangement that met changing organizational needs including construction of new support and storage spaces with closets and lockable storage.
One of the design features that truly makes a difference in the new office area, as well as in the two new training classrooms, was the installation of additional exterior windows to increase the amount of daylight into the building and to provide personnel with views to the exterior. In addition, interior glass storefront partitions were installed to allow for daylight and views to the exterior to extend all the way into the open office area thereby eliminating the dark and cave-like work atmosphere of the original design.
AWC was initially contracted to be substantially complete in October 2020. JEA later decided they wanted the facility to be open prior to the start of hurricane season in August. Through strategic project management we were able to accelerate the schedule by two (2) months enabling early occupancy for this critical “essential facility” in advance of one of the busiest hurricane seasons in history.
